If you’re playing the game through Steam, you may have to enable online communication through your Xbox Live account. After you have it as your default option, make sure it has the proper sound volumes by right-clicking it in the options and setting the headset microphone level to a desirable level, or higher than it is initially set. You can modify what microphone or audio device is your default choice by going to your taskbar, clicking the sound settings, select the recording option, choose the microphone you want to use and select it as the default setting. The next step is to ensure the microphone you want to use is the default one. If you continue to see a speech bubble above the player’s name while playing the game, and can hear them fine, but still have problems, another solution might work better. Make sure Sea of Thieves is one of the available applications allowed to use a microphone, and then try to see if the game will enable you to speak to other players.

You can do this by searching for “privacy settings” in your Windows search bar, and go to the “Microphone” option. Those encountering problems with the voice chat settings or when attempting to speak to other players, attempt to close the game and change your computer’s microphone settings. You can modify any of these settings by visiting the setting options in the main menu or the pause menu of Sea of Thieves. To use the game’s voice chat, the default setting for the push-to-talk option is the Left-Alt key, and for those using a controller, it should automatically detect your voice.

Some players, especially those playing Sea of Thieves on Steam, continue to have issues with the setup, and there are a handful of ways to fix it. When they enter your crew, you need to rely on voice chat to communicate with them quickly. I was getting the same thing as you it looked initially like the game was picking up something as the bubble would appear but then go away and it wasn't really doing it when I spoke.īut the "set as default communication device" (right click on the mic in Sound Control Panel - this appears on the right side in Sound settings under "Related settings") was the solution.Īfter I did that, it was working as before the update. You can choose to play a game of Sea of Thieves with your friends on Discord or find a random crew while exploring the game. Including setting the input and output for Sea of Thieves in Sound Settings - Advanced sound options - App volume device preferences (the game needs to be running for it to appear there). Up to that point I had tried everything - setting every Xbox app's input and output. After hours of chasing it, it turned out to be very simple but easily missable: Windows had turned off the option on my mic in Sound Control Panel which had it set as the Default Communication Device. I did that last night and I had a very similar issue.

Out of curiosity, did you do the latest Windows 10 update to version 20H2? I have tried everything people say online and no luck. My microphone works, I have used it before. Most of the time when I press the key it doesnt work, but sometimes the bubble appears for a few seconds and then dissapears. Said in Game Does Not Recognize I am Pressing Push to Talk:
